Welcome to the Marcellus & Utica Shale Production 2021 Exhibition and Conference where leading Exploration & Production companies will meet with service providers in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to explore the next generation of new technologies and techniques to enhance shale production in the region.

As one of the largest natural gas fields in North America, operators across the Marcellus and Utica are looking for new ways to navigate through the energy market in a post-pandemic world. The Marcellus Shale formation offers huge potential for natural gas producing over 30% of total U.S. shale gas production and recent surveys of the Utica Shale estimate undiscovered and recoverable resources of 38 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. As the US consumes over 20 trillion cubic feet per year, the Appalachian Basin could significantly shore up the U.S. energy future.

Geological factors of the shale reservoir, adoption of advanced production techniques and recent applications of zipper fracturing and simultaneous fracturing are key factors behind the great increase in natural gas production. The Marcellus shale has uniquely higher TOC, porosity and gas saturation, and with the difference between the two horizontal stresses being significant the Marcellus Shale in particular allows for well oriented, longer and planar hydraulic fractures for better outcomes. Operators in the region are further increasing the number of frac-stages, clusters per stage, proppant usage, lateral length, as well as the perforation shots density to optimize total production.

The key focus for this year’s Marcellus & Utica Shale Production 2021 conference will be “Production Optimization Strategies” and the objective will be to bring shale operators and service companies together with leading engineers to collaborate and examine end-user case studies, innovative technologies and production know-how, and to address the current market challenges for shale production in the region.
